![]() If the Dynamic-expanding of the server is kept, the resize of the virtual machine is not required. Then we need to take a snapshot of the VM if a backup is required for the process. In this case, we cannot use checkpoints as a backup. Thus, if the checkpoint is present, we delete the checkpoint. The checkpoint file merges with the virtual machine configuration file. On analyzing the virtual machine in Hyper V manager we found that the checkpoint was present for the virtual machine. Let’s discuss how our Support Engineers resolve the error for our customers. Recently another customer contacted us saying that he is unable to resize the virtual disk. This way, we helped our customers resolve it. Then we resized the virtual disk by following the above steps. Thus, our Support Engineers turned off the virtual machine. The virtual disk is under the SCSCI controller and we can resize online as well. If the virtual disk is under the IDE controller, we need to shut down the system before resizing. To resize the virtual disk we need to turn it off. The reason for the options to grey-out is that the virtual machine is still running. Here at Bobcares, we often receive requests to fix Hyper V errors as a part of our Server Management Services. This error mainly occurs if the virtual machine is in ON state or a checkpoint is present. The data inside is not too important but I'd really like to try more methods to fix this before getting a replacement (still under warranty). Are you stuck with hyper-v failed to resize the virtual disk? We can help you fix it. What could be wrong ? What can I do to troubleshoot this ? So today I ran Ubuntu and tried GParted, but it does not even detect this disk. ![]() Even tried Easeus Partition Manager, but still nothing. But it ran for hours and didn't fix anything. I tried to recover the partition using MiniTool Partition. The status of this disk is Not Initialized and Unallocated. When I click on OK, it gives an error The request failed due to a fatal device hardware error. I opened Disk Management, but it gave an error that the disk must be initialized first. When I plug it in my laptop, it gets detected but the drive does not appear. I gave it to a friend of mine and he returned it back saying it is not working. Two days ago, I copied a few files from my laptop (running Win 8.1) to this hard disk and then ejected it safely. I have a WD My Passport 1 TB HD which I purchased around an year ago.
